Course Description

The advanced water and food class will expand on the previous shelter and fire classes taught at the Sequatchie School. This daylong event will provide an in depth look at these essential components of the sacred order of survival.

If you have not yet attended these basic shelter and fire classes, you can still participate in this advanced workshop, however, the content for this class will assume a certain degree of experience.

In Advanced Food and Water Collection students will expand their skills in the areas of primitive water collection and purification, knife sharpening, flint knapping, primitive trapping, primitive cooking techniques, food preservation, and the crafting of tools and utensils.

This class will begin with making fire by friction in the first hour, and the remainder of the day will be spent making deadfall traps, and snares, identifying and collecting edible plants, making wild-harvested teas, gathering and cleaning water through primitive filters, making spoons and bowls, experimenting with hole-fires, cooking with hot rocks, and finally eating the food that we have prepared. This class is completely hands on with almost no lecture at all. We will simply go into the woods and train the skills in a primitive camp setting. Please bring a great attitude and a deep sense of curiosity. For some students this will be a life changing experience.
